She Walked with God

Genesis 5:24:  Enoch walked with God and disappeared because God took him (CEB).

The Bible speaks often of walking with God.  In the Bible, a person’s “walk” was used as a way to describe how that person “did life.”  Or we might say it was a metaphor for how they conducted themselves.

So walking with God simply means doing life with God.

My small, simple soul is grateful that our way of doing life with God is compared to a walk.

It doesn’t demand a sprint, a marathon, or some sort of song-and-dance production.  We simply must walk.

Walking is something I can do.

I am not saying it is always easy.  Difficult paths make us weary.  Abusive elements slow our progress.  Injuries and hurts make us want to give up.

But all I have to do is lean on Jesus, who walks beside me, and keep putting one foot in front of the other.  And along the way, we talk and we do life together.

Sometimes I might tell him about all the beautiful views around us.  Sometimes I might hold his hand and weep while he silently guards my steps.  Sometimes I might kick rocks in anger.  Maybe he gently chastises me, or maybe he shows me how to deal with my feelings in a way more like him.

Yes, my small, simple soul likes this image of walking with God.  It feels personal and real.  It feels like a delightful way to do life, no matter the ups and downs.

I want to be a woman who walked with God.

Until next time,

Shelby
