What is Your Field?

“She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard” (Proverbs 31:16).

Recently I was reading Proverbs 31, and this verse caught my attention. “She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard” (Proverbs 31:16).

For the first time, I noticed that the woman didn’t buy a vineyard.  She bought a field. It would take a tremendous amount of work to transform it into something more.  It would require a huge investment of her time, and patience, and perhaps she would never know the full results of her labor.

But this woman saw the hidden value of a simple field.

What is your field?

When you look around your life, what opportunities do you see God placing in your path?  What areas promise growth and abundance if you willingly pour yourself into them?

Is it your children?

A church ministry?

A friendship at work or community in your neighborhood?

Or maybe it’s a bit more abstract, such as the beauty of your art or the impact of your written word?

Sometimes our small, simple souls underestimate the legacy that can be left by simply investing in the life God has give us. We look around and see fields but fail to imagine the vineyards.

My friend, let’s find our fields, pour ourselves into them, and dare to imagine all they might become!

And always, let us remember: it is God who grows the vineyard, God who blesses the labor.  And as our loving, limitless God, He is able to do far more than we can ever imagine.

Until next time,

Shelby
