Better Gifts

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11).

God gives better gifts than my heart even knows to ask for.

The Bible is full of examples.

In Acts 3, a lame man asked Peter and John for alms.  He received healing instead of silver.

In 2 Corinthians, Paul asked for a “thorn” to be removed from his flesh.  God left the affliction to build Paul’s character—making him more like Christ—and to teach him to trust God’s power in his weakness.  God gave Paul eternal character over temporary comfort.

In John 11, Mary and Martha sent for Jesus because their brother, Lazarus, was ill.  They thought Jesus would heal him.  But instead of healing, they received hope. They were first-hand witnesses of Jesus’ power to raise the dead.  What a gift!  When their Lord was crucified and resurrected they would surely remember that moment. God granted them an intimate glimpse into His power and His plan of redemption.

Yes, our God gives us good gifts. Eternal gifts.  Gifts best seen when our gaze is fixed upon Him, not on the world.

So, my friend, what are you asking God for today? Let us trust that He has more to offer than our hearts can dream.

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11).

Until next time,

Shelby
