Finding More

Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”  (Matthew 6:25).

I’ve been feeling a low-level anxiety buzzing through my veins.

Maybe you’re right there with me, feeling bogged down today by the details.  The checklist with a hundred little tasks. The juggling of the thousands mundane decisions that fall to you to make. Thinking about all the things that must be done today…tomorrow…next week…

God cares about our day to day life. He cares about “when you sit down and when you rise up” (Psalm 139:2). But above all He cares about our souls.

And our souls were made for more.

In Matthew 6:25 Jesus instructs us, “Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”

Do you see it?  It says, “is life not more?” (emphasis added).

It’s not that those day-to-day details don’t matter to God, He just wants us to keep our hearts and eyes focused on what matters in light of eternity. And what matters the most is our relationship with Him and with others.

With that in mind, maybe we take a look at that checklist with fresh eyes. Maybe we trade out washing the car for having coffee with a friend.  Or maybe we put in the load of laundry, but give ourselves grace to just sit with Jesus until the cycle dings.

So if, like me, you are feeling that hum of overwhelm, let’s take a moment. Take a breath and invite God in. After all, we were made for more—and we find it in Him.

Until next time,

Shelby
