“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His Law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither” (Psalm 1:2-3).

Discontent? … Not quite.
Flat?… Perhaps.
Restless? … Getting closer.
I wish there was a word for how I feel when fail to seek intentional connection with God.
Psalm 1:2-3 says, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His Law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither.”
It is so easy to let both summertime leisure and summertime busyness distract us from our source of purpose and power: the Lord.
When we are busy, sitting down to spend time with God can feel like we are missing a chance to be productive. When we have free time, that same commitment can feel like an obligation rather than a joy.
And yet, it is time with God that allows us to experience full productivity (bearing fruit), and creates a sustaining delight that will not fade with the summer.
When we neglect that time and take for granted that connection, we begin to feel it.
But that feeling is a gift—an emotional nudge sending us back to our Savior.
So this summer, as we soak up the sun, let’s be sure we are also abiding in the Son.
The tree in Psalm 1 flourishes because its roots remain connected to the source. The same is true for us. When our souls feel restless, flat, or dry, they are inviting us back to the One who gives life. Christ is the living water that nourishes weary souls, sustains lasting joy, and enables us to bear fruit in every season.
Until next time,
Shelby
