Anchor #4: God’s Great Faithfulness

“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:21-23, emphasis added).

I remember the first time I felt outright rejection. I was in kindergarten, and my up-to-then best friend Becky informed me, “I don’t want you; I want Missy.”

Those words, “I don’t want you,” broke my five-year-old heart.

Since then, I have learned that every relationship has its limits. No matter how close we might be to someone, human relationships wax and wane. Some friendships come and then go, some flow and ebb like the tide, and—for both better and worse—seasons of life even reshape a spouse’s love.

And there’s no doubt that our own actions play a big part in all of those changes. Inevitably we will so something wrong. We will say words that offend or make decisions based on selfishness. Some relationships will become stronger through reconciliation, and some will not survive.

But’s God’s love—His very presence in our lives—is different.

God’s love never falters, never waivers, and never grows dim. HIs faithfulness is great. So great, in fact, that He is perfectly loyal, perfectly unchanging, and perfectly committed to every covenant and promise He has made.

So when life feels chaotic, God is steady.

When others feel distant, God is ever-present.

And when that one relationship, or plan, or possession we turned to for stability and safety instead falls apart in our hands, God hold us in His—reminding us that He has been our shelter all along.

Yes, God is faithful.

Here are a few of my favorite verses about His faithfulness. What are yours?

  • “Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens; your faithfulness to the clouds” (Psalm 36:5).
  • “If we are faithless, He remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself” (2 Timothy 2:13).

“But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you agains the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

Until next time,

Shelby
