“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9).
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established” (Proverbs 16:3).

Is anyone else in a season of in-between? Wondering what the future holds and how plans will unfold?
Or, if I am being honest, is anyone else in-between plans altogether, wondering what our next step or dream should be?
I am learning to live reliantly on God in this season—holding my ideas loosely yet at the same time needing to pry loose my fingers on a daily basis. (Can anyone else relate?)
Perhaps, like me, you have been told, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9). But only today did I connect that verse to one earlier in the same passage: “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established” (Proverbs 16:3).
This feels comforting.
Because in trusting the Lord with our labors—be it for family, or work, or creative endeavors—He begins to align our plans to His plans. Just as the more time we spend in His presence the more the Lord changes us to be like Him, I am convinced that the more we surrender our plans to Him, the more our plans begin to look like His. Our hearts our transformed, so our dreams must follow.
So if, like me, you are wondering, “What’s next?” … let’s take a step toward committing our efforts to the Lord. A good place to start is simply inviting Him in.
Father,
I pray for all of my friends who are wondering what comes next. I pray for Your peace to surround them and Your grace to cover them. And, Father, we invite You in—into our plans, into our dreams, into our labors. Guide our hearts to long for the things that matter to You, things that are eternal, and things that honor You in our lives. Transform our plans into Your plans. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Until next time,
Shelby
