“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases” (Lamentations 3:21-22a).

In case you missed it, last week I promised we would look at the spiritual anchors that Jeremiah “called to mind” when he needed hope. Anchors that we, too, can hide in our hearts to help tether us tightly to God no matter the storm.
The first anchor? God’s steadfast love.
The word translated as steadfast love in scripture is the Hebrew word hesed. Imagine a word so deep and complex that it has been translated into 80 different words in English to try to capture its significance. Mercy, faithfulness, kindness, goodness, loyalty, steadfast love—all concepts nested in this single word that we often think of as God’s covenantal love.
God’s love is a love too big for simple words. And when the rest of our world may feel like its crumbling beneath our feet, that love always remains.
Here are some other verses you might want to remember when you need a reminder of God’s never-failing love:
- Isaiah 54:10: “For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.”
- Psalm 36:5: “Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.”
- Psalm 86:15: “But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.”
Let’s encourage each other: in the comments share your own favorite scriptures that remind you that God’s love never fails.
Until next time,
Shelby
